About the Iron Gate Inn

Built in 1840 in Madison, Indiana

The house originally a single family home built in circa 1840 by Mr. Pitcher has a grand parlor with 13 feet tall ceilings and 11 feet tall Jefferson windows. There are four original ceiling lamps converted from gas to electric, three of which tell the tale of the aging of man. The original summer kitchen is now the Secret Garden Suite and the Carriage house in the back still stands today as the garage.

The house had several owners until it was purchased and renovated into a Bed and Breakfast in 2005. It was operated by the owners for 15 years until purchased by Chad and Amy (from Cincinnati) at the end of 2020. The couple had previously enjoyed the town but fell in love with the house after staying there. They are continuing the operation as a bed and breakfast including some of the breakfast traditions, but have enhanced the reservation experience.

The Inn boasts four comfortable guest rooms each having a uniqueness of its own. The vintage character of the house and its furnishings are complemented by modern security features of electronic outside door locks for easy entrance, outside perimeter cameras and monitored smoke alarms for the safety and security of guests.

We want your time at the Iron Gate Inn to be as enjoyable and memorable as possible. Our beautiful historic Inn located in downtown Madison, Indiana offers a quiet, vintage period atmosphere and an excellent candlelight breakfast that is a perfect alternative to a hotel. We are located on the main street in Madison, walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants as well as walks along the river.

To assure our guests face no surprises when they arrive, we ask that you read through our policies for information regarding rates, cancellations, check-in/out times, and more.

General Policies:
Check-In/Check-Out Time: Check-In is between 3:00pm-6:00pm EST. Arrivals outside of these hours require advance arrangements. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate early drop-off of bags. Check-Out is by 11:00 am.

Rates are based on Double Occupancy: The Inn is not suitable for additional guests with the exception of the Secret Garden Suite. An additional $35 per person per night fee applies.

Children: The Inn is suitable only for children over 10 years old and children must stay in the same room as a parent. The Secret Garden Suite offers up to 4 person occupancy, while all other rooms hold 2 people.

Breakfast: Provided at 9:00 am. Please indicate any dietary allergies with reservation and at the time of check-in.

Extra Breakfasts: Family and friends of guests may join in breakfast for an additional fee of $15 per person, assuming the availability of space. Advanced notification is required 2 days prior to arrival (3 pm).

Pets: The Inn is not suitable for pets.

Smoking: For the safety and comfort of all guests, smoking is not permitted inside the home or on porches. A minimum $250 fee will be charged as a result of a Guest smoking inside. Smoking is permitted in the gardens when other guests are not present.

Candles: For the safety and comfort of all guests, flame burning candles are not permitted inside the home. A minimum $250 fee will be charged as a result of a Guest using them. Alternatively, non-flame electric candles are acceptable.

Accepted Payment Methods: Debit Cards, Credit Cards (Discover, MasterCard, Visa, American Express), and Gift Certificates.

Gift Certificates: Can be ordered online in various denominations and make a wonderful gift. Expiration date is one year from date of purchase.

Deposit Required: Small inns are greatly affected by cancellations. Therefore, we have established a fair payment policy: 25% of total rental is due by credit card when your reservation is made and the balance will be charged the day of check-in. Early departures are responsible to pay the entire amount of your rental agreement. All payments are guaranteed by a valid Credit Card.

Rates & Taxes: Rates are subject to a 7% Sales Tax and 5% Innkeeper Tax. Prices may vary from other website quotes and from quotes involving holidays or festival weekends.

Cancellation Policy: Should you cancel outside of 14 days prior to arrival, your deposit will be refunded, less a $25 per room per night Administration / Rebooking Fee. Should you cancel 14 days or less of your scheduled arrival date (30 days for groups involving more than 1 guest room), your entire deposit will be forfeited unless we can re-book your room. Upon our ability to re-book your room/s, your deposit will then be refunded less the $25 per room per night Administration/Re-booking Fee. For example, cancellation after 3 pm on Friday for an arrival and check-in on Friday two weeks following will result in a full deposit forfeiture.

Discounts: Discounts are available for booking 2 or more nights as published. Group or further extended stay discounts may be available by calling or emailing the Innkeepers.

Any damages, stolen items, or broken items occurring during the stay will be the full financial responsibility of the Guest and will be charged to the credit card provided at the time of making the reservation.

Management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. The property is privately owned and operated. Should there be any disorderly conduct, disrespect to owners and other guests, intentional damage, or non-compliance with our Inn’s policies, you may be asked to leave at any time, without any refund.

Waiver of Liability: Owners will not be held liable for accidents or injury to Guests or loss of money, jewelry, or valuables of any kind.

COVID-19/Coronavirus Waiver, Assumption of Risk, Indemnity, and Release Agreement and Acknowledgement: By accepting, you acknowledge that an inherent risk of exposure to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, exists in any public place where people are present and is an extremely contagious disease. By visiting our property, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks associated with the exposure to COVID-19. Those risks include personal injury, illness permanent disability, and/or death. You understand that it is your responsibility to know and understand your own underlying health conditions and risk factors and take appropriate measures to protect yourself from exposure to COVID-19. You agree to abide by the preventative measures put into place by Iron Gate Inn, and governmental agencies, to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and further understand that Iron Gate Inn cannot guarantee that you will not become infected by your visit.
